The Divine Mantra for Purifying Heaven and Earth
The Divine Mantra for Purifying Heaven and Earth can dispel evil spirits and disturbances, and purify homes!
This mantra is mainly chanted in the early stage of Taoist rituals. Its content is a prayer to the gods for help—both for oneself and the mortal world—to eliminate impure things and evil demons, so that devout believers can clarify their original intentions and attain tranquility.

Heaven and earth are natural; filthy qi scatters.
Within the cave lies profound emptiness, shining brightly with the great primal essence.
The powerful spirits of the eight directions make me follow nature.
By the command of the Spiritual Treasure, I proclaim to the nine heavens;
Qianluo Dana, penetrating the great mysterious Gang qi;
Slay demons, bind evil, and deliver thousands from ghosts.
This is the divine mantra of Zhongshan, the jade text of the Primordial Origin.
Chant it once to dispel illness and prolong life;
March through the Five Great Mountains, and the Eight Seas shall know.
Demon kings bow their heads, guarding my side;
Ominous filth dissipates, and the Taoist qi abides forever.
Methods for Practicing the Divine Mantra for Purifying Heaven and Earth
In Taoism, the Divine Mantra for Purifying Heaven and Earth has a wide range of uses. It is also called the "Mantra for Purifying Filth," "Mantra for Sweeping Filth," or "Mantra for Dispelling Filth." For disturbances caused by negative energies or unrest in the home, this mantra can be used to address the issues.
Typically, this mantra is the first one recited when formally opening an altar to invite Taoist masters. During a Taoist ceremony, to dispel interference from evil spirits and clear negative energies in the ritual venue, Taoist priests often use this mantra.
Sometimes, priests may recite the Divine Mantra for Purifying Heaven and Earth while performing the "Gang Step" (a ritualistic stepping pattern in Taoism) to protect the ritual site. This method effectively wards off evil spirit interference and serves as a reliable way to safeguard the ceremony.

Specific Practices:
- Hold the "Five Thunders Command Token" in the left hand, form the "Sword Seal" (a Taoist hand gesture) with the right hand, place the right hand on the waist, and step through the "Eight Trigrams Gang Step" (a ritual stepping sequence based on the Eight Trigrams).
- Chant the Gang Step Mantra:
"With steps of Xun, I command the invocation of all spirits;With Yu Steps (a classic Taoist ritual step) crossing Qian, I ascend to Yangming.I lead all divine beings down to Kun Palace;Following Zhen and Li, I bring thunder, fire, and wind.In Kan Palace, I capture evil spirits and demons;In Dui Palace, sharpness seals the Eight Trigrams.I decree to Gen Palace to seal the ghosts' paths;In the center, I invite all generals to protect the altar's lineage."
- After completing the Gang Step, recite the Mantra for Dispelling Filth.

There are many practical applications of this method:
-
Prepare a bowl of water, draw a "Filth-Dispelling Talisman," burn the talisman and let its ashes fall into the water bowl. Hold the bowl with the left hand forming the "Three Mountains Seal" (a Taoist hand gesture), and while reciting the Divine Mantra for Purifying Heaven and Earth, evenly sprinkle the water around every corner of the house with the right hand. This can purify the ritual altar, clear negative energies, and is an effective way to purify the home.
-
This mantra is most effective for dispelling filth from Taoist ritual tools. When using ritual instruments, they might accidentally be contaminated by impure substances, which renders them ineffective. In such cases, the Mantra for Dispelling Filth can be used to remove the filth and restore the instruments' spiritual energy. You can recite the Mantra for Dispelling Filth while drawing the Filth-Dispelling Talisman on the contaminated instrument—this will immediately dispel the filthy qi. Alternatively, you can prepare a bowl of filth-dispelling water and spray it on the instrument.
Filthy qi exists everywhere. To ensure the smooth completion of Taoist practices, the skill of dispelling filth is essential to master. Do not bring impure objects into the ritual altar, and do not allow people with "impure auras" to enter the altar. Furthermore, do not let people with impure auras touch the ritual instruments. If you detect the intrusion of filthy qi, you must use the filth-dispelling method to purify the space.
