Fu Deyi (1115–1188) was a native of Xingan, Qingjiang (now part of Jiangxi Province) in the early Southern Song Dynasty. His courtesy names were Dazong, and also Ningdao and Qixian.

At the age of ten, he lost both parents. County Assistant Yan took him in and raised him. Later, he encountered an immortal who gave him oranges to eat; from then on, he became mentally alert and refreshed, could walk as fast as flying, and had the ability to predict good and bad fortune. People thus called him "Immortal Fu".

Subsequently, he traveled around famous mountains and sacred places in Huguang (covering modern Hubei, Hunan, and parts of Guangdong, Guangxi), Jiangzhe (covering modern Jiangsu and Zhejiang). He was unruly and unrestrained, so people also called him "Crazy Fu".

He possessed Taoist magical arts, being able to summon wind, control thunder, and expel and subdue ghosts and spirits.

He once served as the abbot of Chengtian Palace on Yusi Mountain, Chongzhen Palace on Hunzao Mountain, and Yulong Wanshou Palace. Later, he served as the abbot of Tiezhu Yanzhen Palace for as long as ten years.

The core of his Taoist doctrine was "Jingming" (Pure and Bright), and he regarded "loyalty and filial piety" as the top priorities in conduct. He often advised people to do good deeds and cherish themselves, and people thus respected and revered him.

He had a close friendship with Zhu Xi, a great Confucian scholar, and Xie Shouhao, a Taoist master.

In the first year of the Chunxi era (1174 AD), he was summoned to the imperial capital by imperial edict and had an audience with the emperor in Deshou Hall. The emperor highly praised him and bestowed upon him the title "Master Lingbao".

In the fifteenth year of the Chunxi era (1188 AD), he passed away due to illness at the age of seventy-four.
