Wei Shanjun
Wei Shanjun was a native of Gong County (present-day Gong County, Henan Province) in the early Tang Dynasty. His ancestral home was Jingzhao (present-day Xi'an City). Since his grandfather once served as the magistrate of Gong County, his family registered their residence there, making him a native of Gong County.
As recorded in Volume 36 of Comprehensive Mirror of True Immortals Through the Ages Who Embodied the Dao, at the age of thirteen, Wei Shanjun began to study and recite Dao De Jing, Scripture of Delivering People (Du Ren Jing), Scripture of Ascension to the West (Xi Sheng Jing), and Scripture of Ascension to Mystery (Sheng Xuan Jing). He was well-versed in the doctrines of Laozi and Zhuangzi, so he later maintained a long-term vegetarian diet and held a sincere aspiration for the Taoist school.

When he grew up, he went to Songyang Taoist Temple, where he studied under Huang Yuanze, became a Taoist monk, and received and practiced Taoist doctrines and rituals.
Later, he further studied esoteric teachings under Han Yuanzui at Dongyuan Taoist Temple in Linru. From then on, his mastery of Taoist doctrines became exquisite and profound. Wei Shanjun passed away during the Changshou era (692–694) of Empress Wu Zetian, at the age of ninety-nine.
