How does Taoism assess its disciples?
Partager
Disciples of Taoism are the continuation of the master's thoughts and legacies. Therefore, when assessing disciples, Taoism has strict requirements.
First, the assessment of morality. Taoism believes that one cannot cultivate the Tao without cultivating virtue, just as yang cannot exist without yin. If those who study the Tao do not accumulate virtue first, internal demons often cloud the mind and prevent one from delving deeper. Therefore, disciples studying the Tao must cultivate virtue before cultivating the Tao.
Second, the assessment of concentration. To ensure that one is not confused or misled at that moment, a deep level of concentration is required, and the attainment of such concentration is by no means achieved in a single day. Generally, it requires long-term meditation and mind cultivation for three to seven years.
Third, the assessment of comprehension. The reason why Taoism emphasizes comprehension is whether disciples can understand Taoist concepts and cultivation methods.
Fourth, the assessment of perseverance. Perseverance means persistence, forging ahead, and never giving up. The way of heaven and earth is persistent and unwavering.
Fifth, the assessment of courage. Courage is one of the supplementary cultivation conditions for one's mental temperament, and it can cultivate a fearless spirit.
Sixth, the assessment of character. Only those with noble character can truly comprehend the thoughts of Taoism.
Seventh, the assessment of mind. Tempering the mind can achieve a better state of a peaceful, calm, equal, non-competitive, non-vainglorious, and non-angry heart.
Eighth, the assessment of inferiority complex. Overcoming the inferiority complex can make the mind stronger to face the sufferings of the world.
Eighth, the assessment of discrimination. Discriminating names and forms and uncovering the truth of Taoist inheritance.
Ninth, the assessment of endurance. Taoism regards endurance as a cultivation method that enables one to cultivate positive qualities within, overcome desires and attachments, and reach a higher realm.
Eleventh, the assessment of responsibility. Responsibility is a sense of responsibility and mission, having a clear understanding of one's duties, such as cultivation and mind cultivation.
