More Details About Taoist Fu Lu:

Fu Lu magic is a primary practice in Chinese Taoism, particularly in the Celestial Master Tao and Zhengyi Tao traditions. When crafting Fu and composing talismans, practitioners need to master specific techniques in using symbols, known as "明道法" (míng dào fǎ), including preparation, recognizing symbols, drawing strokes, handling the brush, and employing the symbols. There is a diverse range of Taoist symbols, and understanding their names, meanings, strokes, and purposes is crucial for their correct usage. Following the principles of "道法" (dào fǎ) and avoiding recklessness on paper are essential for creating effective and spiritually potent Fu Lu.

Components of Fu Lu:

  1. 符头 (Fútóu - Symbolic Head): The common "three hooks" seen in many Fu diagrams represent the Three Pure Ones (Yu Qing Yuan Shi Tian Zun, Shang Qing Ling Bao Tian Zun, Tai Qing Dao De Tian Zun) or the Three Realm Protectors (City God, Earth God, Ancestral Master). When drawing these hooks, practitioners silently recite a mantra: "With one stroke, the world is set in motion; with two strokes, the Ancestral Master's sword is drawn; with three strokes, evil spirits and malevolent influences are banished a thousand miles away."

  2. 符胆 (Fúdǎn - Symbolic Core): The Fu core is the soul of the talisman, acting as its master. The effectiveness of a talisman depends largely on whether it has a Fu core guarding it. The process of inviting the Ancestral Master (deity) to preside within the talisman is called "入符胆" (rù fú dǎn), meaning the deity is invited to guard and preside over the talisman. Common Fu cores include the character "罡" (gāng), "井" (jǐng), "马" (mǎ), "化" (huà), among others.

  3. 符脚 (Fújiǎo - Symbolic Base): The "forked symbolic base" is used to conclude the Fu core, finalizing the process of creating a talisman. It holds a significant position in the completion of a talisman.
