Inner Elixir Scripture of Laozi
The author is unknown. Judging from its content and wording, it was presumably composed between the Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty. Consisting of one scroll, it is included in the Benwen Category of the Dongshen Section within The Daozang.
Based on the Yinfu Jing (Scripture of Hidden Tally), this scripture elaborates on the path of Internal Alchemy (Neidan) cultivation. It states that there are three levels of longevity techniques: "The highest is for immortals to embrace the One; the middle is to enrich the nation and secure the people’s peace; the lowest is to strengthen troops and achieve victory in warfare." The alchemical method described involves guiding essence through spirit, consolidating Qi (Vital Energy) into an elixir, circulating the "River Cart" (energy circulation in the body), and refining in the cauldron and stove (metaphors for internal energy transformation).

It further emphasizes that Taoist practitioners must first cultivate the mind. The essence of mind cultivation lies in purifying the heart and transforming conduct, calming the six sense faculties, and adhering to the principle of "embracing the One and abiding in the middle"—refraining from thoughts of clothing and food, desires and cravings, fame and fortune, honor and disgrace.
