The Compiled Transmission of the Supreme Purple Book of Dongzhen
The author of The Compiled Transmission of the Supreme Purple Book of Dongzhen is unknown. It was probably compiled during the Southern and Northern Dynasties.

The Dunhuang Taoist scripture manuscript P2469 quotes the "Supreme Purple Book Script Transmission Scripture", which refers to this very text.
The existing version today is included in the "Zhengyi Section" of the Taoist Canon.
The scripture falsely claims to record a secret decree imparted by the Primordial Heavenly Lord (Yuanshi Tianzun) to the Jade Mother of the White Jade (Baiyu Wangmu). The secret decree states: "It is neither heaven nor earth, neither yin nor yang, neither sun nor moon; it is neither soft nor hard, neither non-existent nor existent — keep it secret and do not spread it."
The Jade Mother explained the true meaning of the secret decree to the Taihe True Boy (Taihe Zhentong) and the Taixuan Jade Maiden (Taixuan Yunü). She declared:
- "Neither heaven nor earth" refers to the supreme integration;
- "Neither yin nor yang" refers to the mysterious penetration of the central palace;
- "Neither sun nor moon" refers to the union of two halves into one;
- "Neither soft nor hard" refers to the convergence of mountains and rivers;
- "Neither non-existent nor existent" refers to the ultimate integration of the Five (Elements) and the Nine (Palaces), with endless transformations;
- "Keep it secret and do not spread it" means practicing it silently and cautiously, without arbitrarily passing it on.
After hearing the secret decree, the True Boy and Jade Maiden asked the Jade Mother about "the mystery of the supreme integration of the Five and the Nine".
The Jade Mother relayed the Primordial Heavenly Lord’s secret decree, saying: "The True One gives birth to the Mysterious Two; the Mysterious Two gives birth to the Divine Three; the Divine Three contains the Supreme Five; the Supreme Five contains the Three Dao, and together they form the Six Wonders. There are five true principles, which are linked to the Three; the Three extend to the Nine; the Nine undergo ultimate cyclic transformation and return to the One." She further stated: "The numbers of nature circulate endlessly without limit; the Three can form the Five, and the Six can encompass the Nine. When formed, they align with the True; when encompassing, they unite with the Dao."
The wording and purpose of the text are quite obscure, and it is suspected to be a mnemonic for sexual cultivation techniques.
