The original title attributes its transmission to "Zhou Deda of Liangfeng" (Liangfeng Zhou Deda Sichuan).

Details about Zhou Deda’s life are unknown; he was presumably a Taoist priest of the Shangqing School (Higher Clarity School) during the Tang and Song dynasties.

The original text consists of one scroll and is included in the "Methods" (Fangfa) category under the "Dongxuan" (Mysterious Grotto) section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon). It expounds on the method of cunsi (visualizing and meditating on) the divine beings of the Nine Palaces.

The text states that there are Nine Palaces on the human head, with one divine being residing in each palace. Taoist practitioners who visualize and meditate on these Nine Palaces’ divine beings can dispel disasters, prolong their lifespan, and ascend to immortality.
