The Shangqing Supreme Scripture of the Hidden Dao of Returning to the Origin for Eliminating Sin Records
As one of the early classics of the Shangqing School (Higher Clarity School) of Taoism, it was roughly compiled during the Eastern Jin Dynasty.

In Volume 20 of Zhengao (True Declarations), it is stated: "Zhang Lingmin of Dongyang obtained the 'one scroll of the Scripture of the Hidden Dao of Returning to the Origin' written by Xu Hui of the Eastern Jin Dynasty," which refers to this very scripture. The present version is included in the "Zhengyi" (Orthodox Unity) section of the Daozang (Taoist Canon).
The scripture expounds on the "Way of the Supreme Being’s Return to the Origin and Repentance for Sins," also known as the "Method of Hidden Origin and Inner Contemplation." To practice this method, one should enter a chamber at dawn on the days of the Six Ding (a concept in Taoist calendar corresponding to specific celestial alignments) within the cycles of the Six Jia (another key Taoist calendrical system). Then, the practitioner needs to visualize the deities of the Eight Stars (namely Taixing, Yuanxing, Zhenxing, Niuxing, Gangxing, Jixing, Guanxing, and Dixing) as well as the deities of the Seven Stars of the Big Dipper. They should confess the sins of their seven generations of ancestors and their own transgressions to these stellar deities, praying for the elimination of sins and liberation from the "Records of Death" (a Taoist concept referring to the cosmic register that determines one’s lifespan and karmic fate).
It is said that those who practice this Taoist method can have their names listed among the "Supreme Truths" (Shangzhen, referring to exalted divine beings in Taoism) and attain the path of immortality.
