Taishang Dongxuan Lingbao Furi Miaojing (The Wonderful Scripture of Auspicious Days of the Numinous Treasure of the Cavernous Mystery of the Supreme Oneness), the author of which is unknown.
Judging from its content and wording, it was presumably composed by Taoist priests during the Sui and Tang dynasties.

The purpose of this scripture is to instruct people to observe fasts and recite scriptures. The so-called "auspicious days" refer to the days of practicing fasts. The scripture stipulates that the first, third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh months of each year are long fast months, during which one must observe a fast for the entire month. For the remaining months, there are also ten fasting days each, known as the "Ten Direct Days".
In addition, there are the "Three Assembly Auspicious Days": the Celestial Ministry Assembly on the seventh day of the first lunar month, the Underworld Assembly on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, and the Water Ministry Assembly on the fifth day of the tenth lunar month. The 15th day of the first lunar month (Upper Yuan Festival), the 15th day of the seventh lunar month (Mid-Yuan Festival), and the 15th day of the tenth lunar month (Lower Yuan Festival) are called the "Three Primes Fasting Days". There are also the Eight Solar Terms Festivals, the Five La Festivals, and so on.
On all such auspicious days, one must observe a fast to avoid disasters, obtain blessings, and have all wishes fulfilled.
