The Secret Instructions for Wearing Talismans of Supreme Clarity
Author unknown.
Judging from its textual style and content, it was compiled by Taoist priests of the Shangqing School during the Tang or Song Dynasty.

The Bibliography of the History of the Song Dynasty records it as "The Secret Instructions for Wearing Texts of Supreme Clarity, in Five Volumes." In the current Daoist Canon (Daozang), it is divided into five chapters: The Green Scroll Secret Instructions, The White Scroll Secret Instructions, The Crimson Scroll Secret Instructions, The Black Scroll Secret Instructions, and The Yellow Scroll Secret Instructions.
These five collections of talismanic incantations and instructions are combined into one volume, classified under the Yujue (Jade Instructions) category of the Dongxuan (Grotto Mystery) Section in the Daozang.
As a compilation of rituals for writing and wearing Shangqing talismans, the five chapters contain over a hundred talismanic texts in total. The division into green, white, crimson, black, and yellow corresponds to the different colors of silk, cloth, or paper used for inscribing the talismans.
The text elaborates on various Shangqing talismans—including Purple Texts, Red Talismans, Hidden Sounds, Spiritual Streamers, True Talismans, Upper Talismans, Inner Texts, True Scripts, Jade Talismans, and Jade Texts—detailing their names, corresponding deities, forms and structures, wearing methods, prayers, and divine effects. The rituals for wearing these talismans include auxiliary procedures such as prayers for auspiciousness and warding off misfortune, offerings, visualization of deities, and qi cultivation.
It is claimed that wearing the talismans in accordance with the prescribed methods can extend blessings, avert calamities, receive celestial elixirs, command gods and subdue ghosts, achieve flight and transformation, and ultimately be escorted by immortals to ascend and attain true immortality.
