What is Preserving Nature in Taoism什么是全性
"Quan Xing" (全性, "Preserving Nature") refers to the preservation of one's innate nature through personal cultivation. The Huainanzi · Lanming states: "To preserve nature completely and protect the true — not to diminish one's body." Just as "preserving life" (quan sheng) and "preserving form" (quan xing) are prerequisites for realizing the ultimate goal of Taoism, so too is preserving nature a foundational condition — without it, no further cultivation of the Dao is possible. The concept reflects the Taoist emphasis on guarding the Qi and spirit endowed at birth, and aligns with the broader Taoist principle of non-interference and natural return.
