The story of "Black Myth: Wukong" takes place after the journey to the west of the master and disciples of Tang Monk. Sun Wukong resigned as the Victorious Fighting Buddha and returned to Huaguo Mountain to live a carefree life. However, the Heavenly Court wants to level Huaguo Mountain. So Wukong has a great battle with Erlang Shen, heavenly soldiers and generals, and many of Wukong's deadly enemies. In the end, Wukong is defeated. Since Wukong is a stone monkey bred by heaven and earth and has the great power of immortality. After Wukong is defeated, his body and soul turn into six roots. Yang Jian gives five of these roots, namely Wukong's eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and body, to the participants of this battle respectively. They are four BOSSes from Journey to the West and Wukong's sworn brother, the Bull Demon King (in the setting, Wukong eats something very nourishing that can improve his cultivation, although these monsters can't bear such great nourishment. This is also the reason why the game is divided into five chapters. It also explains the story background and final BOSS in the original Journey to the West for the five chapters. But note that the BOSS in the fifth chapter is Red Boy). The last remaining root of Wukong - intention, turns into the fated person (the origin of the fated person is explained in the final chapter).

Legend has it that by gathering the six roots, Wukong may be able to resurrect in the world. Therefore, under the guidance of the old monkey, the fated person embarks on an adventure journey to collect the other five roots. In the end, the fated person defeats the BOSSes of various chapters and gathers the other five roots. In the final chapter, the six roots return to one, and defeats the stone ape transformed by the remaining physical entity of the old Wukong in the stone. Putting on the golden headband, he becomes the new Sun Wukong and waits for a new destiny in the stone.

The game is divided into five chapters, corresponding to collecting five roots of Wukong respectively. The first four chapters are rather conventional (with many adapted storylines. It feels like it references the original work, "Fight the Gods" and "A Chinese Odyssey". If Teacher Liu sees it, he will probably ask for an apology again). The fifth chapter has the most information and is also a chapter that focuses on advancing the plot and filling in the plot holes. It explains many questions in the game's plot as follows:

1. Why did Wukong go on the journey to the west? And why did he resign as the Victorious Fighting Buddha and return to Huaguo Mountain after that?

Answer: After experiencing being made into a pill by people after causing havoc in Heaven and being pressed under the Five-Finger Mountain with his butt facing outward for 500 years, Wukong felt that being a bandit leader on a mountain has no way out and future. After all, a monkey like him who is capable, has ideals, is unorganized and undisciplined and also likes to form factions will definitely be feared by the imperial court. Sooner or later, he will be dealt with again. He thinks that for a demon king like him, the best way out is to find a job within the system. After all, only with a powerful organization and backer behind him can he truly do whatever he wants. Following Tang Monk on the journey to the west can achieve this goal most quickly and directly. So Wukong chose to cling to the Buddha and protect Tang Monk on his journey to the west. After the journey is completed, Wukong feels that he is already within the system and has made contributions to the court and the country. He has obtained the full trust of the organization and should not be dealt with anymore. So he resigns from his civil service position and returns to Huaguo Mountain to pursue a carefree life.

2. Why does the Heavenly Court want to attack Sun Wukong and level Huaguo Mountain at the beginning of the game?

Answer: Although Wukong thinks that he was once within the system and has made contributions to the court and the country. He should have obtained the trust of the organization and can enjoy leisure forever. But the Heavenly Court doesn't think so. For the Heavenly Court, a monkey with powerful strength leaving the system and dominating one side without being led by the Heavenly Court is an absolute threat. Not to mention he has a previous record of opposing the court. That is definitely intolerable. So Erlang Shen will lead troops to wipe out Huaguo Mountain.

3. As Wukong's sworn brother, according to the Bull Demon King's character, even if Wukong slightly offended the Bull Demon King on the journey to the west, he wouldn't backstab Wukong. Why did he backstab Wukong when the Heavenly Court was attacking Sun Wukong?

Answer: On the journey to the west, when Wukong borrowed the plantain fan at Flaming Mountain, it led to the death of the Bull Demon King's lover, his son being given away, and his wife being teased. The Bull Demon King is also the Great Sage Who Pacifies Heaven. He is not a cow to be easily bullied. So he also caused havoc in Heaven. The result can be imagined. After this incident, the Bull Demon King recognized Wukong's view that for a demon king like him, the best way out is to follow the court. And for the court, the enemy of one's enemy is a friend. Wukong's enemy is also a useful force to level Huaguo Mountain. And the Bull Demon King can just take this opportunity to defect to the court. Therefore, the Bull Demon King backstabbed Wukong when the Heavenly Court was attacking Sun Wukong.

4. Why did the golden hoop suddenly appear again during the battle with Yang Jian at the beginning of the game?

In the original work, the golden hoop disappeared after Wukong became a Buddha, but Wukong's golden hoop reappeared in the battle with Yang Jian. This can be understood as the court and the organization never trusted Wukong from beginning to end. Wukong's grassroots experience of becoming a saint was doomed to him forever. It is impossible to be an insider. The same goes for the Bull Demon King. The Buddha's position in Fighting Victory and Bima Wen are actually the same, and their purpose is just to restrict Wukong within the system. The golden hoop is always there, and Heaven is always on guard against Wukong, so at the critical moment of the battle, the golden hoop suddenly appears, and Wukong is restrained by the golden hoop, which directly leads to his defeat. There is also the scene in the final chapter where the old monkey puts a golden hoop on the new Wukong, which indicates that Wukong will never be able to live the unimprisoned and free life he wants. He has no way to escape the control of heaven or the forces of the west. , the side also illustrates the words of a certain boss in the game, the so-called destiny person is the person who determines the fate of God!
