The Ritual Rectifications Compendium 玄坛刊误论

Originally attributed to Zhang Ruohai, the Enlightened Wei Zi, compiler.

Completed in the 8th year of Tianfu reign of the Later Jin Dynasty during the Five Dynasties (943 CE).

It was recorded as a single volume in both the Bibliography of Chongwen Academy and the Secret Bibliography of the Song Dynasty; the extant version in The Daozang is included in the Zhengyi Section. A preface written by the author opens the text, in which he stated that he had long practiced and cultivated the fasting protocols of the Three Caverns with lingering doubts, yet found no one to verify and rectify them. Later, he met Master Yunguang, who corrected his errors in the fasting and sacrificial ritual protocols for him, hence he compiled these teachings into this treatise. The entire work consists of twenty chapters including Discourse on Entering the Meditation Chamber, Discourse on Lecturing on Precepts and Conferring Titles, Discourse on Igniting the Ritual Censer, Discourse on Circumambulating Scriptures and Discourse on the Sacrificial Altar.

It elaborates separately on the essential purport of the ritual procedures for various fasting and sacrificial ceremonies, and corrects the errors in the ancient fasting rituals, with its canonical ritual context consistent with the disciplinary tradition preserved in The Dongshen Section of the Tang and Five Dynasties Taoist canon, and its textual pedigree linked to the ritual norms compiled in the mid-the Tang Dynasty.
