Heavenward, the iron helmet rises; heavenly fires blaze in billows. At a throw, it reaches ten thousand li; earthly fires glow in radiance. Beneath my crown, the Three Terraces stand firm; below, the Nine Evils are suppressed. The great cover subdues mountain goblins—their souls scatter, their spirits perish. The small cover vanquishes evil spirits—all inauspiciousness is swept away.

The first cover shrouds heaven and earth in darkness; the second cover dims sun and moon’s light. The third cover dries up rivers and streams; the fourth cover withers grass and trees to yellow. The fifth cover bursts with thunderbolts’ ten-thousand-foot glow; the sixth cover summons winds and rains from eight directions. The seventh cover blesses households with peace and good fortune; the eighth cover hides noxious spirits far away. The ninth cover gathers the spirits of departed ancestors; the tenth cover wipes out plagues and pestilences afar. The eleventh cover eradicates tigers and wolves; the twelfth cover heals the sick and grants them health.

I act by the decree of the Jade Emperor on High—issuing orders to Thunder Gods Deng, Xin, and Zhang. Heavenly troops from the Five Directions roar with thunderclaps; by this cover, unrighteous deities of the Three Realms are bound. O Cloud-Rumbling Heavenly Marshal, command the Thunder Generals of the Five Directions! O Earth Gods of Fengyue (sacred mountains), spread the heavenly net above and lay the earthly net below! Hasten to seal and bind—let not a single demon or evil spirit escape!
