Taoist Spell: The Divine Spell for Washing Hands and Face

The Divine Spell for Washing Hands and Face

Whenever a Taoist priest bathes, washes their hands, or cleans their face, they first stand by the water, tap their teeth three times, and then recite the spell:

The Four Great Elements (earth, water, fire, air) unfold clearly;

Heaven and Earth abide by their eternal order.

The profound water purifies filth,

Dispelling inauspiciousness and evil.

The Two Sovereigns guard the gates,

The Seven True Ones protect the chambers.

The sacred essence nourishes and refines,

All vital energies blend in harmony and health.

Both internal and external thrive in righteousness,

Safeguarding this "yellow garment" (a symbol of inner virtue and blessing).

After reciting the spell, the priest taps their teeth three more times before washing their hands, face, or taking a bath.

This practice is called "Zao Hui Chu Xiong" (Purifying Filth and Dispelling Evil).

There is no fixed rule for the frequency of this ritual—if one practices it regularly, their eyes will become bright, their blood will be purified, and all inauspicious energies will be warded off.
