Feng Shui Taboos for Keeping Fish in the Office
Keeping fish in the office is a time-honored feng shui practice for attracting wealth and career fortune. But placement matters as much as intention. Done correctly, an aquarium channels the continuous flow of water energy into prosperity. Done incorrectly, it can quietly undermine the very fortune you seek.
How Many Fish to Keep
It is best to keep one or six fish. In the theory of the Five Elements, fish are associated with water, and the numbers 1 and 6 both represent the water element. Keeping fish in these numbers implies the continuous, unobstructed flow of wealth — water that never stops moving, fortune that never stagnates.
Three Placement Taboos
1. Never Place the Tank Behind the Sofa
The sofa is where guests are received — it governs the popularity and human relations fortune of the enterprise. A sofa must have solid backing. Water, by its nature, is fluid and unstable. Placing a fish tank directly behind the sofa removes that solid support, signaling that the enterprise's path forward will be unsteady and prone to setbacks.
2. Never Place the Tank Beneath the God of Wealth
If a statue of the God of Wealth is enshrined in the office, the fish tank must never be positioned directly below it. In feng shui, this configuration places the God of Wealth in water — an act of offending the deity. The consequence is damage to the enterprise's financial fortune, the very thing the statue was meant to protect.
3. The Inauspicious Area Is the Right Place
Counterintuitively, the best location for a feng shui fish tank is the inauspicious area of the office. Water's ability to absorb and neutralize negative energy makes it an ideal remedy for problematic sectors. Placing the tank there transforms a liability into an asset — this is considered excellent feng shui.
