Annals of the Immortal Line 上阳子金丹大要仙派

Written by Chen Zhixu in the Yuan Dynasty.

Originally an appendix to Essential Points of the Golden Elixir, it was issued separately as one volume in the The Daozang edition, included in the Taixuan Section.

This text is divided into two parts: Immortal Lineage and Ritual for the Birthdays of the Two Immortals Zhong and Lü.

Immortal Lineage lists the transmission lineage from the founder of the Internal Alchemy school to Chen Zhixu. It takes “Laozi of the Pre-Heaven Supreme Ultimate” as the founding master, who manifested incarnations age after age and was born as Li Er during the Zhou Dynasty, also known as “the Later Saint, the Mysterious Primordial Supreme Laozi”. The Supreme Laozi was the teacher of Donghua Dijun. From Donghua Dijun, the teachings passed down through generations to Zhongli Quan, Lü Dongbin, Wang Chongyang, and others, finally transmitted to Chen Zhixu.

Ritual for the Birthdays of the Two Immortals Zhong and Lü includes ritual procedures for inviting the patriarchs, congratulatory documents, and prayers for sending off the deities. The invited patriarchs include:

This shows the general merging of the Northern Lineage of Quanzhen Dao and the Southern Lineage of the Zhong-Lü Golden Elixir school in the Yuan Dynasty. Chen Zhixu was indeed a representative figure inheriting both the Northern and Southern lineages.
