Annals of the Immortal Line
Written by Chen Zhixu in the Yuan Dynasty.
Originally an appendix to Essential Points of the Golden Elixir, it was issued separately as one volume in the The Daozang edition, included in the Taixuan Section.
This text is divided into two parts: Immortal Lineage and Ritual for the Birthdays of the Two Immortals Zhong and Lü.
Annals of the Immortal Line
Ritual for the Birthdays of the Two Immortals Zhong and Lü includes ritual procedures for inviting the patriarchs, congratulatory documents, and prayers for sending off the deities.
The invited patriarchs include:
- Immortal masters who attained the Dao after the Supreme Lord Laozi: Yin Xi, Heshang Gong, Anqi Sheng, Mingsheng Sheng, Yin Changsheng, Xu Congshi, Wei Boyang, Lord Ge Xian, Lord Xu Zhenjun, etc.
- The Five Patriarchs and Seven True Masters of the Northern Lineage of The Quanzhen Dao after Donghua Dijun.
- The Five Patriarchs of the Southern Lineage from Zhang Ziyang to Bai Yuchan.
- Chen Zhixu’s predecessors: Song Defang, Zhao Youqin, Liu Guyun, etc.
This shows the general merging of the Northern Lineage of Quanzhen Dao and the Southern Lineage of the Zhong-Lü Golden Elixir school in the Yuan Dynasty. Chen Zhixu was indeed a representative figure inheriting both the Northern and Southern lineages.
