Canon of Converged Mystery

Author unknown.

Judging from its content, it appears to have been compiled in the Song Dynasty.

It consists of three volumes and is included in the Supreme Mystery Section of The Daozang.

This classic is a divination text belonging to the art of Liuren Dunjia, intermingled with Taoist talismans. The entire work is divided into twenty-four sections, written in four-character phrases.

Canon of Converged Mystery

It first discusses the multiplication and division transformations of the Eight Trigrams and Nine Palaces, then elaborates on the assistance of various stars, Grand Yi Nine Palaces, Nine Stars as Talismans, Eight Trigrams in Charge, Three Marvels and Eight Gates, division of time by days and hours, wind, cloud, and geography.

The main principle is based on the numbers of the Hetu and Luoshu, and timing by Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches. It states: “When the Eight Trigrams are established, the Nine Palaces follow; regret and trouble have omens; survival and perish can be known in advance.”

Its divination methods include fortune divination, meteorological divination, Fengshui divination, military divination, residence divination, and daily miscellaneous divination, mixed with paces along the stars, subduing ghosts and spirits, which are quite fantastical.
