Compilation of Inscriptions and Miracles

The contents are divided into six categories:

Origins of the Divine Manifestation,

Veneration in the Song Dynasty,

Veneration in the Yuan Dynasty,

Practice of Immortality,

Stone Inscriptions,

Responsive Miracles.

The first three categories mainly record the deeds of the Interviewing True Lord and the historical facts of his veneration through the ages.

The Interviewing True Lord is the deity of Lushan, also known as the Angel of the Nine Heavens or the Envoy of Lushan.

This deity was recorded in Daoist texts as early as the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties.

In the 19th year of Kaiyuan of the Tang Dynasty (731), the Temple of the Angel of the Nine Heavens on Lushan was first built to worship this deity.

It was renamed Tongyuan Mansion in the 2nd year of Shengyuan of the Southern Tang (938), Taixing Xingguan Temple during the reign of Emperor Taizong of the Song, and again renamed Taixing Xingguo Palace in the 6th year of Xuanhe of Emperor Huizong (1124).

This palace flourished in the Tang, Song and Yuan dynasties, with both official and popular veneration of the Interviewing True Lord, which is recorded in detail in this book.

The latter three categories respectively recount the deeds of those who practiced Dao and sought immortality on Lushan through the ages, collect inscriptions related to Taixing Xingguo Palace, and record miraculous manifestations of the Envoy of Lushan.

The book is in effect a relatively complete historical gazetteer of Lushan.
