Cultivation Canon of the Nine Immortals
This text is presumably one of the scriptures of the Pure Brightness Sect from the Song and Yuan dynasties, and is included in the Taiping Section of the Daozang.
Cultivation Canon of the Nine Immortals
The scripture collects the teachings of nine immortals: Ge Zhongqing, Fu Chushang, Yinxuanzi, Zhizi, Yuan Zhiji, Lady Wu, Hu Angong, Liu Yanqing, and Xu Danyang. All these immortals use water as a metaphor for the blood and vessels in the human body. They teach that those who excel in nurturing life take water as their model, understanding the principles of the movement and rest of the blood. By thus circulating the blood, they enable it to flow throughout the body, converging to where the five viscera originate and return, just as a hundred rivers flow into the Yangtze and Han Rivers and then gather in the great sea. Hence this scripture is named the "Scripture of the Nine Immortals' Water".
