The preface at the beginning of the book states that it was issued by imperial order of the "Benevolent Life-Honoring Heavenly Matriarch of the Nine Heavens and the Guardian of the Inner Chamber". The original text is in one volume and included in the Zhengyi Section of The Daozang. The book contains ninety-nine spirit lots, each accompanied by a seven-character lot poem and an entry of "Explanation", which interprets the meaning of the poem.
