Esoteric Instructions of Ten Thousand Jade Talismans

This text was presumably compiled by Taoist priests of the Pure Brightness Sect in the Southern Song Dynasty through excerpting and adapting The Great Dharma of the Shangqing and Lingbao, and is included in the Methods category of the Dongxuan Section of the Daozang.

Esoteric Instructions of Ten Thousand Jade Talismans

It records the star charts of the Thirty-Two Heavens, the personal names, official duties and abodes of the Ten Heavenly Emperors, as well as the hexagram lines, Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, qi numbers and hexagram breath numbers of the Thirty-Two Heavens and their corresponding parts of the human body. It also details the method of stepping on the mysterious nether veins of the Thirty Heavens to ascend to immortality, the method of divining good and bad fortune by observing various parts of the human body, and the method of invoking deities and ascending by concentrating one’s spirit and reciting incantations. All three magical arts originate from The Lingbao Sect, with the text written in an abstruse and incomprehensible style.
