The Comprehensive Records of Literature·Bibliographic Survey catalogs it as Verified Records and Illustrations of Elixir Cultivation, in one scroll, composed by Luo Ziyi. Additionally, Volume Seventy-Two of the Seven Bamboo Slips of the Cloud Satchel contains Verified Records of Elixir Refining in the True Origin and Marvelous Dao, attributed to "Ning, the True Grotto Master in Straw Robes, who compiled and narrated it". Luo Ziyi is suspected to have been a Tang Dynasty Taoist priest, who composed this work under the pseudonym of the True Grotto Master in Straw Robes.
Illustrated Guide to Alchemical Practice
A short preface precedes the text, stating that this work fully expounds the profound essentials of alchemical methods. Based on the oral formulas passed down by the master and interpretations of the true scriptures, it clarifies what was obscure in them, compiling the content into illustrated treatises. The text contains twelve illustrations, each followed by a brief commentary that outlines the essential secrets of medicinal gathering and fire control for elixir refining in the twelve months of the year. It is an illustrated text that interprets Internal Alchemy through the terminology of External Alchemy.
