Since the book contains honorific titles conferred upon Lord Xu Zhenjun during the Yuan Dynasty, it was presumably written by Daoists of the Jingming Sect in the Yuan Dynasty.
It consists of one volume, included in the Genealogy and Records category of the Daozang, Mysterious Cavern Division.
Immortal Biography of Lord Xu Zhenjun
This is one of the extant biographies of Lord Xu Zhenjun (Xu Xun, a Daoist of the Jin Dynasty). It records in detail his life stories: birth, self-cultivation, seeking teachers, alchemy, slaying the flood dragon, reclusion, and ascension to immortality. It also includes biographies of his teacher and friend Wu Meng, his disciples Peng Kang, Shi He, Zhou Guang, Gan Zhan, Shi Cen, Zeng Heng, Chen Dong, Xu Lie, Huang Renlan, Zhongli Jia, as well as Hu Huichao (or Hu Huichao), a Daoist of Xishan in the Tang Dynasty.Many myths, legends and biographies concerning Xu Xun or the Twelve True Lords have appeared since the Tang Dynasty. The content of this book is similar to works such as Record of the Eighty-Five Transformations of Lord Xu Zhenjun of Xishan and Illustrated Biography of Grand Historian Lord Xu Zhenjun, all of which were compiled by Daoists of the Jingming Sect during the Song and Yuan dynasties.
