The original text consists of forty-three volumes, accompanied by one volume of Catalogue, and is included in the Method Category of the The Dongxuan Section within the The Daozang.The book is divided into twenty-five sections, each collecting several short essays or Taoist Talismans. Volume One, The Section of Resolving Doubts about Taoist Rites and Methods, serves as the general outline of the entire book, elaborating in detail on the origin and essential purport of The Great Rites of the Numinous Treasure. The subsequent twenty-four sections from Volume Two comprehensively compile various fasting and sacrificial rituals, talismanic scripts and Taoist methods of the The Lingbao Sect in the Song Dynasty, arranging them by category. Its contents are mostly about the practice of incantations, talismans and sacrificial rituals to invoke deities, subdue demons, refine the physical form and redeem all beings, and attain ascension through celestial steps. It is one of the surviving texts on the Lingbao Taoist methods from the period between the Northern and Southern Song dynasties.
