The compiler is unknown, but judging from its content and writing style, it is believed to have been composed between the Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty.
Consisting of one volume, it is included in the Methods category of the The Dongshen Section in The Daozang.
Profound Canon of the Nine-Cycle Numinous Elixir
The scripture is fictitiously attributed to the Supreme Ultimate True Person lecturing to the Precious Accumulation True Person, elaborating on the refining method of the Ninefold Transforming Spirit Cinnabar Great Elixir. It is divided into nine chapters:
- Chapter of the True Parents: Describes the method of stir-frying and refining mercury, the "mother ingredient".
- Chapter of the Birth of the Sacred Embryo: Explains the technique for producing refined silver.
- Chapter of the Luminous Lotus of the Jade Pool: Details the method of refining Haolian Sand (also known as Golden Valley Seed).
- Chapter of the Immortal Palm and Moonlit Pool: Sets forth the process of smelting purple polished gold.
- Chapter of the Golden Lotus of the Purple Mansion: Expounds the refining method of Purple Mansion Golden Lotus Sand.
- Chapter of the Gushing Spring of the Purple Mansion: Illustrates the technique for making Purple Mansion Gushing Spring Sand.
- Chapter of the Sevenfold Return Golden Fluid Elixir: Introduces the method of extracting the Golden Fluid Return Elixir.

It is claimed that upon completion of the ninefold elixir, ingesting a hundred pellets will enable one to ascend to immortality in broad daylight. At the end of the book, additional methods for alchemical firing temperature control and medicinal preparation are appended, including the stages of Yin-Yang martial fire, parental gentle fire, the method of subduing sulfur by Yin means, the method of subduing mercury by Yin means, the method of stir-frying blue gold, and the method of subduing Yin-Yang dual-energy sand.
