Pure Brightness Canon of Epidemic Protection
The scripture proclaims that all pestilences and illnesses are governed by ghosts and gods, who inflict them as punishment on evildoers. Even Taoist practitioners and their families will suffer such calamities if they fail to perform good deeds in accordance with the Dharma. Thus the Supreme Lingbao Pure Brightness Heavenly Lord descended to bestow the divine incantation for warding off pestilences, the divine talisman for subduing pestilences, and the Red Powder and Male Cinnabar Elixir. Those who cultivate the Dao may recite the incantation, wear the talisman and take the divine elixir in accordance with the rituals to subdue pestilential toxins and epidemic illnesses.
