Record of the Collected Highlights of Nanyue
Jiao Hong of the Ming Dynasty recorded it as a three-volume work in Bibliography of the National History, while Ruan Yuan of the Qing Dynasty attributed it to "Chen Tianfu, a Taoist Priest of the Song Dynasty" in Abstracts of Books Not Collected in the Four Treasures of the Library.
This work is said to be a transcription copied from a Song-dynasty edition preserved by a Ming-dynasty scholar.
Record of the Collected Highlights of Nanyue
The first volume includes one general map, five detailed maps, and the sacred sites of the five peaks of Nanyue Mountain; it also covers a total of twenty-seven categories including the Grotto Heavens and Blessed Lands, and emperors of successive dynasties. The middle volume narrates Buddhist temples and Taoist abbeys, as well as the rare birds, divine beasts, exotic flowers and unusual grasses produced here. The lower volume recounts extraordinary figures and eminent monks of the Tang and Song dynasties, with a supplement on reclusive scholars at the end. The book features extensive quotations and concise narration, and is more detailed and comprehensive than A Brief Record of Nanyue Mountain by Li Chongzhao of the Tang Dynasty. It was included in both Secret Library of Wanwei and Collection of Lilou Studio. An abridged one-volume version was also incorporated into the The Dongxuan Section, Biographies category, of the Daozang, which only extracts accounts of eighteen Taoist abbeys recorded in the middle volume of the original work—including Zhenjun Abbey, Nanyue Abbey, Shangqing Palace, Yinzhen Rock, Jiuzhen Abbey, Jiuxian Palace, Zixu Pavilion and others. Each entry briefly describes its historical relics or includes relevant poems and inscriptions in its praise.
