Resting in Time and Abiding in Flow

A principle for navigating life in Taoism.

Zhuangzi · Nourishing the Lord of Life states:

“Accept the time and abide by harmony; sorrow and joy cannot enter you.

The ancients called this the Emperor’s untying of the suspended knot.”

Resting in Time and Abiding in Flow
To be born in accord with the time, to die in accordance with principle, to be at peace with the moment and yield to change — this is called Accepting Time and Abiding by Harmony.

When humans are seized by life and death, they are like someone hung upside down.

Seeing through life and death, one naturally remains free of sorrow or joy over them,

and the tormented state of being hung upside down is thereby dissolved.
