Scripture of the Primal Vastness

The author is unknown; it was likely compiled between the Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty.

Scripture of the Primal Vastness
This scripture elaborates on internal cultivation and nourishment techniques, adopting both the content and literary style of the Huangting Jing (Scripture of the Yellow Court). It advocates purity, tranquility, and non-action, urging practitioners to renounce desires and attachments, guard the gate of essence, strengthen the root of spirit, breathe in refined Qi, and nourish the spirit—all to attain longevity and ascend to heaven.

Thus, it states: "With purity, tranquility, and non-action, one’s will remains undimmed; the jade fan and golden scrolls grace the quiet gateway; breathing the balanced Qi nurtures subtle vitality. Returning to truth and simplicity, one reclaims the innocence of a child; renouncing desires and attachments, the spirit naturally returns."

It further declares: "As refined Qi circulates throughout the body, the five spirits grow strong; unceasing breath leads one to ascend the azure vault."

"And: 'The upper palace, crimson-lined, should be kept warm; the middle palace, with its red headscarf, stands solemn and present; the lower palace, clad in cinnabar robes, guards the gate of essence. If one can guide this with discernment, they shall be aligned with heaven and earth.'"
