Songshan Qi Mother Shrine Stele
This text is an epigraph for the Temple of the Mother of Xia Houqi at Songshan. According to legend, Yu the Great married the daughter of the Tushan clan, who gave birth to Xia Houqi and later turned into a stone. Later generations built a temple to worship her in memory of her diligence. Cui Rong of the Tang Dynasty composed this epigraph by imperial order to eulogize the virtue of Qi’s mother. When Empress Wu Zetian visited Songshan, she highly praised this inscription.
