Supplemental Biography of Emperor Wu of Han
Author unknown.
Judging from its content and language, it was presumably written by Taoist priests during the Eastern Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties. Originally a sequel to The Inner Biography of Emperor Wu of the Han, its texts were already cited in early Tang works such as Anthology of Literature and Primary Learning Notes. The edition in the The Daozang was separated as an independent volume and included in the Biographical Category of the The Dongzhen Section.
Supplemental Biography of Emperor Wu of Han
This book narrates the miraculous stories of fourteen figures: Dongfang Shuo, Lady Quan (namely Lady Gouyi), Lord Jiqiu, the King of Huainan, Li Shaoweng, Gongsun Qing, Lady Lu the Ascetic, Feng Junda, Li Shaojun, Dongguo Yan, Yin Gui, Ji Liao, Wang Zhen and Liu Jing. All these fourteen were renowned immortals and alchemists from the Han Dynasty to the Wei and Jin dynasties, or figures associated with Emperor Wu of the Han. The stories in the book are mainly adapted from Wei and Jin supernatural novels such as Records of the Ten Continents, Biographies of Immortals and Stories of Emperor Wu of the Han. Taoist biographies of immortals in later generations also frequently quoted this work.
