On its sixth page, it states: "In the third year of the Zhenguan reign (628 AD), in the eighth lunar month, Li Jing led more than 400,000 troops to fight against the Turks. At the third watch of the night, the Nine Heavens Mysterious Maiden bestowed the Guxu Method upon Li Jing." Based on this, it is a Taoist text of the The Tang Dynasty.

Originally one volume, it is included in the Various Arts category of The Dongxuan Section of The Daozang.
The first half of the book compiles various Taoist Talismans, diagrams and medicinal prescriptions, describing the magical arts of invisibility, astral pacing, the Guxu Method, auspicious time selection, subduing demons and restraining evil spirits, curing illnesses and protecting pregnancies. The second half is the Classic of the Lunar Mysterious Maiden, which is said to have been imparted to the Taoist priest Zhang Qun by the Six Ding Jade Girls. This classic records the arts of invisibility, seal forging, sword forging, sword burying, and evil restraining methods.
