Its contents were also transcribed in Chapter 37 of Seven Bamboo Tablets of the Cloud Satchel. The entire text is divided into fifteen subsections, among which Preface to Fasting and Abstinence, Six Kinds of Fasts, Two Kinds of Fasts, Twelve Fasts, Eight Solar Term Fasts and Mental Fasting primarily outline the classifications and spiritual functions of fasting rituals. Sections such as Six Annual Fasts, Ten Monthly Fasts and Mixed Yin-Yang Fasting Days enumerate the auspicious dates suitable for performing fasting ceremonies. Subsections including Six Fasts and Ten Pure Days of the Cavern Mystery and Numinous Treasure, Fasting and Pure Days, Explanation of the Nine Dietary Rules for Fasting, Discourse on Miscellaneous Fasting Methods, Fasting Protocols and Upholding Fasting Precepts elaborate on the essential guidelines and relevant prohibitions for practicing fasting rituals.
The fasting methods expounded in this book are mostly based on the doctrines of Lu Xiujing and Song Wenming of the Southern Dynasties.
