The Bao Jing 鲍靓

The Bao Jing 鲍靓

Paul Peng
Bao Jing, also known as Taixuan, was a native of Donghai (now Changshu County, Jiangsu Province) during the Jin Dynasty; some sources say he was from Chenliu (now Kaifeng City, Henan Province). He was the father of Bao Gu, who was Ge Hong's wife.
He was well-versed in Confucian classics, astronomical omens, and also proficient in books on astronomy, the Hetu and Luoshu (ancient divinatory texts). He was promoted to the position of Central Commandant of Nanyang and later served as the Prefect of Nanhai.
He studied under Zuo Yuanfang, receiving the Central Method, as well as the techniques of 劾召 (summoning and restraining) from The Three Sovereigns and The Five Sacred Mountains. When he practiced these techniques, they yielded effective responses, enabling him to command ghosts and spirits, seal mountains, and subdue demons.
He had a close relationship with Xu Mi. His disciples included Ge Hong and Xu Mai.
