Paul PengShare
Bu Zonghao was a native of Suzhou during the Yuan Dynasty, and his courtesy name was Jinde.
In his childhood, he studied Confucian classics. Later, he learned Taoism from Zhang Chongyi at Xuanmiao Temple, and Zhang taught him Taoist scriptures and esoteric techniques including The True Compilation of the Great Cavern: Returning Wind and Blending Vital Energy, The Esoteric Secrets of the Three-Five Flying Steps from the Shangqing Lingbao Tradition, and a reference book on "Bitan Execution and Investigation" (a Taoist ritual text for exorcism and blessing).

He attained profound mastery of Taoist doctrines and rituals, and many of his practices were believed to have miraculous effects.
During the Yanyou era of the Yuan Dynasty (1314-1320), he was officially appointed as "Hongjiao Dharma Master" by imperial decree.
