The Cai Chongjing 蔡冲静

The Cai Chongjing 蔡冲静

Paul Peng
Cai Chongjing was a native of Qiantang during the Yuan Dynasty. She married into the Yao family as a wife.

During the Yanyou era (1314-1320), she said to her husband, "I want to break away from mundane affairs and cultivate myself to attain the Taoist truth.

Let’s divide our family property into two parts: one part will be used to build a nunnery for my cultivation, and the other part will be for you to settle the family." Her husband also had the aspiration to transcend the mortal world, so they built two nunneries/ Taoist temples in two different places—one named Changsheng Nunnery and the other named Changchun Nunnery. Later, both the husband and wife attained profound insights into Taoist doctrines, and they were called "dual cultivation practitioners" by people at that time.
