The Cai Jiangyue 蔡江月

Cai Jiangyue (1179-1237) was a native of Mancheng (now part of Hebei Province) during the Jin Dynasty.

He could speak only when he was six years old and became a Taoist monk at the age of seven. In the early years of the Da'an era, he studied under Qiu Changchun (a renowned Taoist master of the Quanzhen School) and received Taoist doctrines and essentials directly from Qiu through oral instruction, after which he suddenly achieved enlightenment. When Marshal Zhang Rou governed Mancheng, he submitted a memorial to the imperial court to report Cai's virtues and attainments. The court then bestowed upon Cai the Taoist title "Zhanran Jiangyue Zhenren" (Immortal of Clear and Calm River Moon).

In the ninth year of the Taizong era of the Yuan Dynasty (1237), Cai Jiangyue passed away peacefully without suffering from any illness, at the age of 59.
