The Cen Daoyuan 岑道愿
Paul PengShare
Cen Daoyuan was a native of Jiangling (now part of Hubei Province) during the Tang Dynasty.
He lived in seclusion at Nanyan Rock in Wanzhou, where he practiced fuer (taking herbal elixirs) with polygonatum sibiricum, engaged in canxia yanqi (feasting on celestial radiance and swallowing vital energy)—a Taoist cultivation method. Though over a hundred years old, his skin remained as smooth and fair as ice and snow.

In the 10th year of the Xining era of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty (1077), he was officially conferred the title "Zhenren XuJian" (Zhenren: a honorific for accomplished Taoist practitioners, literally "True Person"; XuJian means "Void-Mirror" or "Clear-Insight").
