Chen Shiyuan was a Taoist priest of Longhu Mountain in Jiangxi during the late Song and early Yuan dynasties.
In the 18th year of the Zhiyuan era (1281), he was officially appointed as the "Chongxuan Hongjiao Tongmiao Dharma Master" (a title denoting profound Taoist learning and moral integrity), "Daojiao Duti" (a senior administrative position in Taoism), and concurrently held the post of "Tiandian Shangda Qingzhengyi Palace Affairs" (responsible for managing the affairs of the Shangda Qingzhengyi Palace, an important Taoist temple).
