The Chen Shizheng 陈师正

Paul Peng
Chen Shizheng (? - 1194) was a figure of the Jin Dynasty, also known by his Taoist title "Datongzi" (Master of Great Penetration).

In his early years, he made a living by fishing and hunting. Later, he met Liu Deren, the founding patriarch of the True Great Daoism (Zhen Da Dao), who imparted Taoist doctrines to him and guided him to embrace the Taoist path.
Chen Shizheng possessed Taoist supernatural abilities and could predict good and bad fortunes.

He served as the second patriarch of the True Great Daoism, presiding over the religious community for 15 years. In the fifth year of the Mingchang era of the Jin Dynasty (1194), he passed away due to illness.

Accounts of his life can be found in Song Jinglian's work Shu Liu Zhenren Shi (Record of the Venerable Liu).
