The Chen Xiwei 陈希微
Paul PengShare
Chen Xiwei was a native of Gusu (now Wuxian County, Jiangsu Province) during the Northern Song Dynasty, and his courtesy name was Yanzhen.
He originally went by the given name Boxiong. In the middle years of the Yuanyou era (1086–1094), when Boxiong fell ill, he sought out Mr. Liu and asked for "fushui" (Taoist talisman-charged water); after using it, his illness was cured immediately.

Later, his wife passed away, so he retreated to live in the mountains and became a Taoist priest. He changed his name to Xiwei and built a residence by the Liuqian Spring.
Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty heard of his reputation and issued repeated imperial edicts summoning him to the court, but Chen Xiwei declined to go. The emperor then issued an imperial order to name Chen's residence "Baoyuan Guan" (Baoyuan Taoist Temple) and conferred upon him the title "Master Dongwei" (Master of Penetrating the Subtle).
Chen Xiwei passed away in the middle years of the Xuanhe era (1119–1125).
