Chen Yangde (1745-1819) was a native of Shunhu (now part of Zhejiang Province) during the Qianlong and Jiaqing reigns of the Qing Dynasty.

His original name was Kejia; his courtesy name was Yuxiang, and his literary name was Guiyun.

As recorded in Jingai Xindeng (The Lamp of the Heart at Jingai Mountain): In the 10th year of the Jiaqing reign (1805), when he was 60 years old, he first came to Jingai Mountain and studied under Lanyunzi (Master Lazy Cloud). He was inherently kind and gentle, and could find joy even in adverse circumstances.

Every day, he only ate a vegetarian diet of vegetables and grains. From morning to evening, he focused on studying a Taoist scripture and practicing the Dou (Big Dipper) ritual, never ceasing regardless of cold or heat.

He contributed to the revival of Jingai Mountain. Visitors came to the mountain like swarms of bees, and he indeed made remarkable achievements in this endeavor.

In November of the 24th year of the Jiaqing reign (1819), he passed away due to illness at the age of 75.
