The Chen Yangzhen 陈阳真

Chen Yangzhen (1763–1805) was a native of Taizhou Prefecture, Zhejiang Province during the Qianlong and Jiaqing periods of the Qing Dynasty. His original name was Pusheng, with courtesy names Taipu, and art names Chunggu and Qiyunzi.

The Lamp of the Heart at Jinge Mountain records: Yangzhen was born into a wealthy family; he loved Taoism from childhood and had no interest in fame and fortune.

At the age of seventeen, he met Fang Rongyang at Weiyu Cave Heaven and learned the Meridian Cultivation (Midday and Midnight Practice). Later, he went to Tiantai to visit Sun Laiming, and then traveled around Huangyan, Hangzhou, Suzhou and other areas. He was well-versed in both esoteric and exoteric scriptures, was also skilled in poetry and proficient in Bird Divination, and had a thorough understanding of the origins of the Eighteen Elixir Methods and other practices.

He once wrote Annotations on the Wu Zhen Pian, Annotations on the Can Tong Qi, Annotations on the Qing Jing Jing, etc., which showed profound insights.

In interacting with others, he was humble and sincere, and was respected by both inside and outside the Taoist community.

In the seventh year of the Jiaqing reign (1802), he left Tiantai for Jinge Mountain, where he received the Three Great Precepts, was conferred the Taoist Cap, and was given his current name.

He died of illness at Jinge Mountain in the tenth year of the Jiaqing reign (1805) at the age of forty-two.

He was the Twelfth-Generation Master of the Vinaya in the Longmen Sect.
