Chen Yiwen, styled Wenzhong, was a native of Tong'an (now part of Fujian Province) during the Southern Song Dynasty.
He resided in Tianqing Guan (Tianqing Taoist Temple) in Quanzhou, practicing asceticism and cultivating his spiritual life for more than thirty years.

During the Qingyuan era (1195-1200), he was bestowed the title "Master Shousu Chongxu" (meaning "the master who upholds simplicity and maintains tranquility"). (From Records of Quanzhou Prefecture)
