The Chen Zhiming 陈知命

Paul Peng
Chen Zhiming (1117–1197) was a native of Yuancun Village at Zhongnan Mountain (now in Huxian County, Shaanxi Province) during the Jin Dynasty, and he went by the literary name Chaozhenzi.

He paid respects to Ma Danyang as his teacher and served as the abbot of the Ancestral Court (of the Quanzhen Sect). He accumulated virtues and performed meritorious deeds, helping people by providing medical treatment and medicines. Before long, he retired from his position and appointed Lü Dao'an as the new abbot.
In the second year of the Cheng'an era (1197), he passed away without suffering from any illness, at the age of eighty-one.

Accounts of his life can be found in the middle volume of Inner Biographies of Immortal Sages from the Ancestral Court of Mount Zhongnan.
