Compiled by Wei Dayou, with the author’s preface written in the Dingmao year of the Hongwu reign period of Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty (1387).
Originally consisting of two volumes, the version in the Daozang (Daoist Canon) is divided into ten volumes and included in the Yujue (Jade Commentary) category of the Dongshen Section.
The Compendium of Dao De Jing Commentaries
This work compiles commentaries from twelve scholars: Heshi Gong, He Xinshan, Lü Zhichang, Li Daochun, Liu Shili, Lin Xiyi, Dong Sijing, Chai Yuangao, Ni Si, Su Zhe, Chao Jiong and Wu Cheng. In his preface, the author states that he "selected those annotations with detailed and clear explanations, sound reasoning, consistent meanings and no forced interpretations". This book possesses certain documentary value.
