The Compiled Annotations on the Liezi

Composed by Yin Jingshun with supplements by Chen Jingyuan.

Yin Jingshun served as the county magistrate of Dangtu in the Tang Dynasty, and Chen Jingyuan was a Taoist priest of the Northern Song Dynasty. This work is included in the Yujue (Jade Commentary) category of the Dongshen Section of the Daozang (Daoist Canon).

The Compiled Annotations on the Liezi

The Xuxiu Siku Quanshu Tiyao (Annotated Bibliography of the Revised Complete Library of the Four Treasuries) states: "Since the late Ming Dynasty, most annotated versions of the Liezi have combined Zhang Zhan’s annotations of the Eastern Jin Dynasty and Yin Jingshun’s annotated text into a single compilation, resulting in confusing phonetic annotations that often make it impossible to distinguish between the works of Zhang and Yin. Fortunately, this book has been preserved, allowing us to glimpse the original form of Yin’s work." However, a drawback of this book is that it fails to distinguish between Chen Jingyuan’s Supplements and Yin Jingshun’s Annotated Text.
