The Compiled Exegesis of the Wenzi 通玄真经缵义

Also known as Wenzi Zuanyi (Collected Exegeses on the Wenzi), it was composed by Du Daojian, a Taoist priest of the Yuan Dynasty.

The Compiled Exegesis of the Wenzi

Consisting of twelve volumes, it is included in the Yujue (Jade Commentary) category of the Dongshen Section of the Daozang (Daoist Canon). This work preserves all twelve chapters of the Wenzi as a complete text. The annotations fall into two categories: traditional annotations and "Zuanyi (Collected Exegeses)". In his "Zuanyi", Du Daojian argued that the Wenzi is "the pivotal essence of governing the world" and regarded it as a derivative of the Laozi. This book can serve as important reference material for the study of Taoist philosophy.
